A Place for All Seasons
Like our company, the great state of Utah is an exceptional place
that offers a high quality of life. In fact, in June 2003, Employment
Review magazine named Salt Lake as the 10th best place in America to
live and work. We are fortunate to enjoy the excitement and change that
four seasons bring to our state each and every year. Picturesque
mountains – the Wasatch Mountains to the east and the Oquirrh Mountains
to the west -- surround the Salt Lake Valley. Salt Lake International
Airport is closer to the heart of the city it serves than nearly any
other U.S. airport, which makes business and recreational travel both
easy and convenient. We are also rich in culture featuring Ballet West,
Pioneer Theatre Company at the University of Utah, Utah Symphony, Utah
Opera and Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, among other outstanding cultural
offerings. We also happen to have one of the most highly educated and
healthiest populations among the 50 states.
Winter
As host of the 2002 Winter Olympics, Utah is a winter paradise. With
nine major ski resorts, three cross country ski areas and the nation’s
only recreational ski jumping complex less than an hour’s drive from
downtown, there is always something to do. Snowmobiling in our state
parks and the Sundance Film Festival, held in downtown Salt Lake and
Park City every January, are other winter highlights.
Spring
While our spring season is often short, it can also be one of the
most beautiful times of the year throughout the state. The moisture from
winter snow and spring rainfall creates a beautiful array of colorful
flowers and tree blossoms not to be missed, especially the amazing
gardens at historic Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake. And our ski
resorts typically stay open until mid-April, so spring skiing is minutes
away.
Summer
Summers can be hot in Salt Lake but the mountains are never far away
for those who want to escape the heat. A number of canyons, which
typically offer temperatures that are 10 degrees or more cooler, are
located within minutes of downtown including City Creek, Emigration,
Mill Creek, Little Cottonwood and Big Cottonwood. World-class summer and
winter resort Park City is only about 30 minutes from downtown Salt
Lake. Hiking, mountain biking, boating, river running, golf and tennis
are just a few of the summertime activities you can enjoy in our great
state.
Fall
Vibrant colors and cooler temperatures are what you can expect from a
Utah fall or, as the locals like to call it, Indian summer. A number of
festivals take place each year in the mountains to take advantage of the
scenic byways of our area’s canyons. Swiss Days is an annual favorite in
Heber City, while Snowbird’s Oktoberfest continues to entertain locals
and tourists alike. Fall is also an excellent time to visit our
world-famous national parks in southern Utah, as the temperatures are
cooler and the crowds smaller. And for those sports enthusiasts, fall
marks the start of the football season at the University of Utah in Salt
Lake, and Brigham Young University in Provo. The NBA franchise Utah Jazz
also begin their season each fall.
